The route starts in Kalldorf at the former Engelsmeier farm dating from 1889, which is now used as a village community center. Cyclists will not only find a parking lot here, but also a drinking water dispenser, a toilet block and seating at the historic bakery. The tour leads along the Herrengraben on the alternative route of the Weser Cycle Path, mainly on paved paths. This route is varied and suitable for families - there is plenty to discover.
You will pass the following sights on the cycle route:

ZIEGLERDENKMAL IN KALLDORF
Almost like the miner belongs to the Ruhr region, the brickmaker belongs to Lippe. The brickmaker memorial from 1988 on Meyra-Ring in Kalldorf is a reminder that the economic and social
imbalance within Germany forced many Lippe people to leave their homes or to work as migrants from the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century. This is still documented
today by the brickmakers' associations, which pass on this history as living traditional associations.

INFOTAFELN UND BILDERRAHMEN ERDER
With a flat route parallel to the Weser, the route leads along the Herrengraben nature reserve from Varenholz to Erder. Along the alternative route of the Weser cycle path, more than 10 information steles point out historical and scenic features. The large picture frame bench with a view of the Weser invites you to take a selfie.

VARENHOLZ CASTLE
The Weser Renaissance castle with its Protestant Reformed church is located on the edge of the Weser floodplain and looks back on a long history. First mentioned as a castle in 1188, it was expanded into a palace at the end of the 16th century by Count Simon VI zu Lippe to become one of the most important buildings of the Weser Renaissance. The former aristocratic residence was the headquarters of the UFA Universum film company after the Second World War and is now home to a boarding school with a private secondary school. The picturesque inner courtyard is one of the most beautiful buildings of the Weser Renaissance. From summer 2023, a rest info point below the castle will not only offer a shelter with seating, but also a bike repair station and information point for cyclists.

WESERFÄHRE
Crossing the Weser on the Varenholz-Veltheim high-wire ferry is not only an exciting experience for young and old, but also saves hikers and cyclists a lot of distance. This type of ferry is not only environmentally friendly, as it has no drive motor, but is also quiet, so that passengers can enjoy nature to the full during the crossing. Operating times: April to October at weekends and on bridge and public holidays from 10 am to 6 pm

CHURCH AND CANON IN LANGHOLZHAUSEN
The canon on the Pauline Bridge was made in Bourges in France in 1886 and dates back to the period after the Franco-Prussian War. As "spoils" of the First World War, it initially stood in the courtyard of Detmold Castle. Won by the Langenholzhausen warriors' association in a raffle, the cannon was transported to Langenholzhausen in 1924, pulled by four horses. It found its current location on a pedestal with erratic blocks from the Kalle in 1934. Right next door is the Protestant church whose tower was built around 1150. The organ inside was built in 1752 by the Herford organ builder Christian Clasing and is one of the most important old organs in Westphalia-Lippe.
