The forest area to be hiked belongs to the princely family of Bentheim-Tecklenburg, who have their residence at Rheda Castle. This beautiful forest served as a local recreation area for the residents, which in earlier times was known as Stadtholz.
In addition to spruce forest, there are also stands of beech and oak in this region. You can walk past meadows and through poplar avenues along well-maintained hiking trails, past damp forest terrain, where a few areas of primroses still delight hikers in spring.
