The tour is around 20 kilometers long, leads along bike-friendly paths and can be easily completed in around 2 hours. The 20 stops provide an insight into the development of Sürenheide, which became a district of the town of Verl with around 4,500 inhabitants after the Second World War.
Until the beginning of the 20th century, Sürenheide ("sour heath") was an almost uninhabited area of heathland that was used extensively by the surrounding farms as pasture for cattle and for the production of firewood and heather planks. After the division and privatization of the 1342-acre "Gemeinheit Sürenheide" in 1828, a new landscape development began. The barren heathland was cultivated or afforested and many small farms, so-called "Rentengüter", were created. With the construction of the Reichsautobahn in 1935/38, the landscape changed fundamentally. In the period after the Second World War, housing estates were built on the barren sandy soils of Sürenheide and displaced persons built a new home here. After the municipal reorganization of 1970, Sürenheide was developed into a sub-center of the town of Verl.

Directions
We start the tour at the Heimathaus (Station 1) and turn right from Sender Straße onto Hauptstraße. Turn left onto Friedhofsweg -> immediately right again across the parking lot -> follow the path past the orchard -> at the end of the path we come to the road "Zum Meierhof" (Station 2) -> turn right there and follow the road to the end -> turn left onto Sürenheider Straße -> cross the road after about 300m and turn into Bükersweg ->Station 3 -> follow the road -> turn left into Feuerbornstraße ->Station 4 -> we come back to Sürenheider Straße and cross it -> Thaddäusstraße ->Station 5 -> turn left at the end of the road -> turn right into Glatzer Straße (Station 6) -> follow Glatzer Straße straight on via Posener Straße -> turn right into Trakeiner Straße -> turn right onto the cycle path and follow Sürenheider Straße to the traffic circle (Station 7) -> cross Sürenheider Straße before the next traffic circle and follow the cycle path along Isselhorster Straße -> after the highway bridge turn left (Station 8) into Isselhorster Straße -> then immediately left again onto Heideweg ->Station 9 -> at the second turn-off turn left onto Heideweg -> from the beginning of the housing estate Heideweg becomes Waldweg -> continue along this path, until we reach Sürenheider Straße -> turn left -> first right into Am Hüttenbrink and immediately right again onto the cycle path -> back on the cycle path, cross Am Hüttenbrink and continue straight ahead -> after the highway bridge, turn right into Waldstraße -> cross the road to stay on the cycle path ->Station 10 -> turn left into Gleiwitzer Straße -> keep right at the next fork and follow Gleiwitzer Straße -> cross a stile to reach Stettiner Straße -> follow the road -> at the end of the road turn right onto Allensteiner Straße -> at Elli-Markt (Station 11) turn right onto Thaddäusstraße -> turn left and follow Thaddäusstraße -> take the first left onto Schinkenstraße ->Station 12 -> at the end turn left onto Berensweg -> turn left onto Am Ölbach back to Thaddäusstraße -> turn left -> second street on the right Königsberger Straße ->Station 13 -> the street turns into Zollhausweg ->Station 14 -> turn right into Grillenstraße and reach the path directly by Lake Verl (Station 15) -> continue along the path -> past the Bunte Mühle (Station 16) the path continues around the lake -> at the end of the path we reach a paved road again and turn left into Leineweg -> the path continues along the lake -> at the next fork we keep half right and pass Station 17 via a path at the edge of the field to the road Zum Meierhof -> straight ahead across the road into Friedhofsweg ->Station 18 -> at the end of the road turn right and then immediately left again -> we reach our destination at the Heimathaus.
