Rocky landscapes, breathtaking views and mysterious myths give this hike its unique character. The beautiful wooded route takes you from Ibbenbüren to the idyllic resort of Brochterbeck and offers a stroll through untouched nature of romantic beauty on the way back.

At the start of the 9.4-kilometre circular tour, the bizarre sandstone rocks, which you will encounter on the narrow ridge paths in all shapes and sizes, rise up to 40 meters in height. The Münsterland park landscape presents itself from ever-changing perspectives along the four-kilometre-long sandstone formation. The most famous rock of the Dörenther Klippen is the "squatting woman" in Ibbenbüren, which is the subject of a tragic legend. According to the legend, a mother turned herself into stone to save her children from the approaching floods. Very close to the Hockende Weib, the "Almhütte" invites you to stop for a bite to eat and linger in a cozy hut atmosphere. You can also enjoy a fantastic distant view from the "Drei-Kaiser-Stuhl" rock formation near Brochterbeck. The idyllic recreation area with its mill pond and public garden as well as the historic Franz restaurant invites you to linger. From here, the route leads through light-flooded forests and repeatedly offers fascinating views with picturesque natural backdrops. The pristine Bocketal valley, which is known for its gorges, rocky outcrops and lush meadows, is particularly impressive.

Directions

From the "Dörenther Klippen" hiking parking lot on the B219, you first pass the campsite, then the path branches off to the left. A narrow, steep path leads up through shady mixed forest.
Now it is a comfortable walk on a wide forest path to the cemetery of honor. This commemorates April 3, 1945, when allied troops crossed the Dörenther Klippen and fierce fighting broke out. Since 2003, the Dörenther Klippen and its surrounding woodland have been designated a nature reserve.
At the large resting mushroom there is the option of taking a shortcut (downhill to the right). If you want to continue, turn left over hill and dale towards Bocketal. The trail remains in the valley and reaches the "Im Bocketal" hiking parking lot (2nd entry point to the trail). From the hiking parking lot "Im Bocketal" there are some benches waiting behind the tennis court. A detour (approx. 300 m) invites you to stop off at one of the village's inns.
At the fruit nature trail, you reach the Hermannsweg, which leads steeply up to the Königstein and Dreikaiserstuhl, the towering rock in the south-eastern part of the Dörenther Klippen. Climbers can often be seen here.
The path reaches the resting mushroom again and continues downhill to the left. The path follows the Teutoburg Forest past beautiful pastures and isolated agricultural estates. It then heads uphill again towards the Dörenther Klippen, the highlight of the tour. Before that, the alpine hut is a great place to stop for refreshments. If you don't like climbing over rocks, visit the viewing balcony above the hut. A few meters after the hut, the rock path leads to the legendary rock "Hockendes Weib", probably the most famous rock in the cliff chain, and the other rocks. The trail leads past the campsite and back to the "Dörenther Klippen" hiking parking lot.
