The Bad Salzuflen vacation region celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019.
To mark this anniversary, the ADFC Bad Salzuflen developed a route through the towns entitled: 12 towns, 1 cycle path. In April 2019, it was inaugurated in the presence of an ADFC cycling group.

This cycle path, in the shape of a horizontal eight, can be divided into two stages. In a western part with a length of 25 km, in the east on a circular route of 27 km.

The character of the "lying eight" is the use of low-traffic roads through the settlements and communities. Cyclists trundle along asphalted country roads through the unique landscape of the Lippe district.

Each circular route can be cycled clockwise or anti-clockwise or supplemented with additional stops. It is also possible to shorten the routes.

Directions

For the eastern circuit of the figure eight, we head to the new town hall in Rudolph-Brandes-Allee.

Urban region around Lohhof

The first section leads through urban residential streets to the school grounds in Lohhof. Pupils meet us playing in the school playground at break time.

Extra tip: A short detour of around 200 m up towards Asenberg rewards the cyclist with a fantastic view over fields of grain with poppy blossoms, out into the distance to the green belt of Schötmar and to Bad Salzuflen on the right.

From Lohhofstraße in Ehrsen-Breden, we look up to the left to the parallel Ackerstraße with an avenue of lime trees, which will catch our eye several times on this circular tour. After the village of Ehrsen is behind us, the surroundings change to a wide landscape, the tree-lined banks of the Bega and lush green meadows.

Out into the countryside for a picnic by the lake

The Bega accompanies us on the left and we focus on the lakes on the right. Only a road separates Lake Hartigsee and Lake Krietfeldsee. For a coffee stop from the thermos flask and a few cookies on the hand, we enjoy the refreshing coolness on a summer's day or the colorful foliage in autumn.
Following the GPX track, we leave the route after a few kilometers for a visit to the LWL-Museum Ziegelei Lage.

Looking over the brickmakers' shoulders

History comes to life at the LWL-Museum Ziegelei Lage. The tour of the museum grounds illustrates the background to brick production. The information is also suitable for children. If you like, you can make your own bricks and round off your visit to the museum with ice cream, coffee and cake or hearty dishes on the outdoor terrace of the museum café.

Sylbacher Straße leads directly to the Uekermann family's mill in the Grastrup-Hölsen district. The estate is located on the Bega river and is one of the oldest farms in Lippe. The River Bega flows past the mill and has powered the mill since 1847.
After a few more steps, we come to a crossroads. On the right-hand side we see the Ahle sand pit. In addition to sand extraction, building materials are recycled. The landfill and composting facility is also located on the site.

Tripping under giant trees by bike

At the crossroads, we turn left into Liemer Straße and follow an avenue. There are gnarled old trees to the right and left of the road. A little further on, we come to the famous plane tree avenue. It's rare to find such beautiful trees!

Reward at Hollenstein

After crossing Ostwestfalenstraße, we head towards Retzen, on to Quentsiek and through Lohhof. The slope ahead brings us to the Hollenstein ridge. Initially via the Berghof road, then left via the Mergelweg to Heldmannstraße and finally right via a serpentine bend to Hollenstein. Here we are rewarded with a fantastic view over the wide plain of the vacation region of Bad Salzuflen.

From Hollenstein, the bikes roll along the northern foothills of the Vierenberg through the communities of Wüsten and Waldemeine into the Salzetal valley and back to the Bad Salzuflen landscape garden.

On the way, it is worth taking a detour via a forest path to the Bad Salzufler Bismarck Tower, only around 1 km from the Hollenstein mountain restaurant. If you want to enjoy a special view, take the key from the mountain restaurant to climb the tower.

Back in Bad Salzuflen, it's just a few more steps to the starting point of the cycle tour at the new town hall in Rudolph-Brandes-Allee.
