To the west of the Eggegebirge mountains between Bad Lippspringe and Altenbeken, in a depression running along the ridge, is the Lippspringer Wald forest with its many sights.

Hindahl's cross

The location of the cross refers to a 500-year-old settlement in Weringhusen. It commemorates the death of a young girl on the nearby Dumberghof farm.

The wheelwright Bernhard Hindahl from Neuenbeken donated it in 1886. The field name of this wooded area is "Am großen Gott"; also known colloquially as "Am grautem Guot" or "Eisernes Kreuz".

The Brichkuhle

The Lippspring Forest is predominantly located on limestone, where beech trees feel particularly at home. There are several sinkholes due to karstification. The largest sinkhole in the area is the Brichkuhle with a diameter of 40 meters and a depth of 25 meters.

Dolines are formed by the collapse of the surface layers when the rock is washed out and hollowed out by underground watercourses. These holes in the ground, known as sinkholes, can be dry or filled with water.

Dolines are valuable biotopes with a special microclimate and provide an exceptional habitat for animals and plants.

Directions

From the parking lot, follow the A3 to the left in the high forest. After about 300 meters there is a wet doline on the right - A3 turns left, to Brichkuhle - continue downhill to the forest clearing; in the course of this forest path (mixed forest) you will see more sinkholes - turn right along the edge of the forest to the next large forest crossroads. Then turn right again into the forest, always following the signs until you reach the parking lot.

Drive from Bad Lippspringe by car to the "Hindahls Kreuz" parking lot: Drive onto Lindenweg, turn left at the second fork in the road (cross), cross L 937 and drive straight on to the parking lot at Hindahls Kreuz.

You can park directly at the "Hindahls Kreuz" parking lot.
