Discover the vast landscape of the Senne in the south of Bielefeld!

The cycle tour takes you through the Senne and Windelsbleiche districts to a green bridge, the Windel Rieselfelder nature reserve, the Senner Waldbad and the Senne Museum Farm.

(!) Feeder route from Senne StadtBahn terminus (+ 2x 3.7 km):

On the feeder route, you travel via the Senne cemetery, one of the largest and most beautiful forest cemeteries in Germany. The transverse axis with the old chapel built in 1913, the mortuary and the water basin form a charming contrast to the pine and heathland landscape.

Round tour:

On the circular route between Sennestadt and Windflöte, you immerse yourself in the floodplain forest along the Hasselbach.

The first green bridge in Westphalia was built on Lohmannsweg during the construction of the A 33. It connects the ecologically valuable areas of Kampeters Kolk and Rieselfelder Windel. The 30-metre-wide bridge allows endangered animal species to continue their migrations. During the day, the nocturnal amphibians can burrow into the topsoil. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross the highway next to it. The green bridge is located 0.4 km off the route on Lohmannsweg, which branches off the route to the east between junctions 62 and 57.

In the past, the Windel sewage fields were used to drain the wastewater from the Windel textile company. Today, the sewage fields are an important nature reserve. Many rare and endangered bird species breed or rest on their migration on an area of 60 hectares. Three observation towers, a barrier-free platform and signposted walking trails provide insights into the flora and fauna of the wetland biotope.

The Senner Waldbad in the Windelsbleiche district invites you to take a dip in the cool water. A little tip: birthday children of all ages have free entry here!

South of the Teutoburg Forest lies the Trocken-Senne. Special terrain forms such as inland dunes and dry valleys are typical of this part of the Senne landscape area.

A short detour (0.3 km) before the end of your tour is worthwhile: Hidden in a small wooded area south of Buschkampstraße is the Museumshof Senne with five listed half-timbered houses from four centuries. The buildings were dismantled piece by piece at their original locations in the Senne and faithfully rebuilt here.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Birdwatching in the Windel Rieselfelder nature reserve in Bielefeld-Senne: You can observe birds in the nature reserve from the barrier-free platform near junction 57. There is a detailed map on the information board at junction 57 that shows you the routes to the three observation towers.
