The circular cycle route around the Westenholz district is ideal for families with children and skaters and provides an insight into the history and life in and around Westenholz. The route takes you directly past many places of interest and of course also offers opportunities for a rest.

On the first of the ten circular routes (DE 1), you can explore the district of Westenholz and its sights in more detail. Westenholz is located in the west of Delbrück and is the largest district of the town of Delbrück. Westenholz was first mentioned in a document in 1415, but various finds suggest that the village was already settled in the Stone Age.

The tour, which is around 22 kilometers long, starts at the village square, the central point in Westenholz, and runs almost exclusively on farm tracks, making it suitable for families with children. In addition to the Fulhorst Chapel, a small chapel on Nordhagener Straße, which was restored by the local farmer himself, the Heihoff Chapel is also worth seeing. It used to stand behind the Heihoff farm by an old pasture. It was removed from there to be rebuilt in front of the farmstead. If you follow the signposts, you will not only discover the idyllically situated chapels, but also the granary on Rieger Straße, the oldest secular building in the town of Delbrück. This well-preserved half-timbered granary is located on the Sudhoff farm and was built in 1577.

The tour continues along Brückenweg, a protected woodland area with Zinselmeier's mill, to the Boker-Heide Canal. The Boker-Heide Canal is named after the village of "Boke" and is one of the most important technical cultural monuments in Westphalia. It stretches 32 km from Paderborn-Schloß Neuhaus via Delbrück to Cappel near Lippstadt, where it flows back into the River Lippe. It was used as an irrigation canal from around 1850 until the mid-1970s. With the help of 16 main sluices, numerous secondary canals, irrigation and drainage ditches, meadow and arable crops were made possible on the originally barren heath sand soils.

Past the old court site "Freier Stuhl", the place where the districts of Paderborn, Soest and Gütersloh border each other, the cyclist reaches the Swin golf course Meiwes on Wiebeler Straße. Swin is an invention from France derived from old rural games. It quickly became apparent that non-golfers in particular could be won over to this new idea. Swin golf is basically played like golf, but the game is easier to learn.

The Swin Golf course is the first course of its kind in Germany and covers an outdoor area of 10 hectares. A round of play usually consists of 18 sections (holes), which vary in length.

The course continues past the old procession chapel on Boikweg back into the town center to Westenholz church, a neo-Gothic building with the prince-bishop's coat of arms on the older tower.

Along the entire tour, the typical local gastronomy along the way invites you to linger with changing seasonal dishes.
