The route leads through unique landscapes such as the Senne heathland with the Ems springs, the green forests of the Eggegebirge, the karst-rich Paderborn plateau, the foothills of the northern Sauerland with the large Aabach dam and the Lippeniederung with its typical canals.
Striking sights such as the imposing Dalheim monastery complex, the mighty Wewelsburg castle, the former prince-bishop's residence Neuhaus Castle, the Paderborn Town Hall from the Weser Renaissance period or the largest sand-lime brick bridge in Europe, the railway viaduct in Altenbeken, invite you to linger.
During the varied cycle tour, you will repeatedly come across rivers, streams and springs. In addition to the Ems, Lippe, Heder, Afte and Alme, the circular route also takes you along the Pader, the shortest river in Germany.
The Paderborner Land Route leads almost exclusively on separate cycle paths directly to the towns and villages of the Paderborn region with their unmistakable charm. Here, cosy cafés and restaurants beckon with their typical regional specialties such as bread, beer, asparagus, game, strawberries or ice cream specialties.
The Paderborner Land Route is the only cycle route in East Westphalia classified by the ADFC - rightly with a good 3 stars.
