The ecological forest nature trail leads along some geological features through the Niederntudorf forest.

The forest area is located on the Paderborn plateau. This is part of the Westphalian Bay and the largest limestone and karst landscape in Westphalia. Covering an area of 652 hectares, the Tudorf Forest is part of a wooded area between the Sauerland and the Eggegebirge mountains, for which the beech is particularly characteristic.

A special feature of the Paderborn Karst are the clearly visible spring alluvial cones that only occur here. Rainwater seeping onto the Paderborn plateau flushes out the finest soil particles. It is transported through the fissures and crevices in the limestone subsoil without being able to settle the soil particles and is then brought to the surface again in the Almetal. Here, the bubbling water comes to rest and deposits the fine soil material at the edge of the spring sponge funnel in a conical mantle. Three of the spring sponge cones that are easily recognizable at the site have funnel openings that form circular lakes during periods of high precipitation. One sponge cone has no opening.

Apart from 2 small, constantly flowing springs near Büren and Nordborchen, there are only Quickspringe springs in the Alme valley. These springs are located in the Tudorf area on the southern side of the Alme and only pour large quantities of water during rainy periods.

These natural features await visitors to the forest nature trail.
