Did you know? The Bergweltenweg came 8th in the "Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2024" poll, making it one of the top 10 hiking trails in Germany.

Behind the seven mountains
The quality trail certified as a "dream tour" leads along particularly natural paths through the dreamy Teutoburg Forest. You may not be hiking in the Alps here, but you will still pass seven mountains.

Steeply uphill

You start your hike at an altitude of 168 m at the large parking lot of the Gaststätte Friedrichshöhe. From here, the route takes you steadily uphill towards the Teutoburg Forest - the Bergweltenweg trail lives up to its name! After leaving Hohe Liet (218m) and Gottesberg (263m) behind you, you reach Petersberg (266m) on the ridge path of the Teutoburg Forest.

Steinhagen & Wacholder
On the Petersberg, you can marvel at the last juniper heaths, which bloom magnificently in late summer. The importance of juniper for the region is demonstrated by the listening station"Steinhagen & Wacholder": older people in particular are sure to remember the juniper schnapps "Steinhäger", which is unmistakable in its distinctive brown clay bottle.

Dreamy views in two directions
After a few more meters in altitude, you will be rewarded with two fantastic views at the Bußberg (306m): Due to the ridge location, you can look both towards the Münsterland plain and towards Ravensberger Land. You also have the opportunity to stop for refreshments at the Berghütte Schwedenschanze about halfway along the route.

Time for rest and relaxation
After only going uphill so far, you now pass the Palsterkamper Berg (295m) before descending steadily to 142m. As descents are also energy-sapping, one of the over 20 benches along the way is ideal for a short break in the secluded forest. Alternatively, you can use the rest area "Schmecken", which offers a beautiful view as well as tips for recipes using herbs along the way.

A million liverworts
In the last third, you hike along the Emilshöhe (177m) uphill again, but are rewarded with a natural spectacle at the foot of the Jakobsberg (217m), especially in early spring: While the rest of the ground is still bare and barren, around 1 million liverflowers stretch their purple flower heads towards the spring sun.

A meal as a reward
Just before the end, you have another opportunity to let your gaze wander into the distance - relaxing on a sun lounger at the Haferbrede viewpoint. Finally, you reach the Friedrichshöhe restaurant again. The rustic restaurant is incomparable and ideal for a meal after your fantastic hike.

Tip: The Steinhagen hiking pass and the "Bergweltenweg" sticker are available free of charge from the Berghütte Zur Schwedenschanze and the town hall.
