This circular cycle route takes you through the villages of Oppenwehe and Oppendorf. See the idyllic Oppenweher Moor nature reserve for yourself and discover rare animal and plant species. In the fall you can experience the impressive resting place of the cranes.

The tour starts at the Oppenweher Mühle mill. If you book in advance, you can use the barbecue area on the mill grounds before the start of the tour to fortify yourself. Of course, this is also possible after the cycle tour. In the moorland landscape of Oppenwehe, you can not only cycle excellently thanks to the well-developed paths, but also relax perfectly on a walk. A stop in the moor should therefore definitely be included in your plans. However, you will have to leave the cycle path briefly to do this. Guided tours of the moor can also be booked on request.

Through the moor you reach Oppendorf. The village is particularly well known for its fruit growing. The rest area at the fire station is ideal for a break. From Oppendorf, the tour leads back to the Bockwindmühle windmill in Oppwehe. Thanks to good signposting, it is easy to find.

In Oppendorf and Oppenwehe, you not only have the opportunity to admire the landscape. You can also buy food produced on the Stemweder farms. At Buschmann Obstbau in Oppendorf (05773/284), Siegfried Biebusch in Oppenwehe (05773/529) or on the farm of Ewald Redeker in Oppenwehe (05773/501) you can buy Stemwede delicacies such as Oppenweher asparagus.

If you feel the need for hearty home cooking, you are in good hands at Meiers Deele (05773/209) or Moorhof Huck (05773/374) in Oppenwehe. Delicious dishes await you in the Oppenwehe restaurants.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

On the trail of the crane

Start at 3.30 p.m. with covered wagon and machine

The wagon is stocked with Platenkuchen, small sausages, bread rolls and coffee

.

The ride leads to one of the observation points nearby. Once back at the Moorhof, there is a rustic barbecue buffet.

This trip is particularly interesting in spring and fall. At this time of year, a particularly large number of "birds of happiness" stop by.

In the meantime, some pairs also stay here and successfully raise their young. You should definitely bring binoculars to observe them. Call in good time to reserve your seats.
