The first part of the ascent path up to Herlingsburg Castle corresponds to the old path of the Lügders to "their Borg". At a resting place halfway up is the place where, according to legend, "the white maiden" searches for her lover on full moon nights. Her story can be read on a lovingly designed bench.
The path then climbs a little steeper up the mountain to the north gate of the Wallburg. The path continues into the interior of the ramparts along the old border from 1668 to the refuge. The remaining boundary stones date back to Prussian times. Take your time and enjoy the magnificent view in the direction of Köterberg during a long break on the cozy landscape lounger. You will find the next legend site at the refuge. Here, the "Hermann Saga" tells of a dwarf tribe that hides a legendary treasure in the mountain.
The way back to the north gate can either be taken directly or via the ramparts in the western area. If you take the path over the ramparts, you can expect a fantastic view of the Emmer valley in some places.
Now it's downhill towards the glassworks - past the Wölbäckern from the early Middle Ages, the junction to the "Bomhof" and the spring of the town of Lügde. At this point, the legend of the "old Känzler" is told, who played tricks on the farmers and animals. A short distance further on, you will reach the hiking parking lot again.

Directions
From the hiking parking lot, first follow the slightly sloping tarred road to the left. After about 200 meters you reach the edge of the forest. Here, an inconspicuous, slightly ascending grass path leads to the right in the direction of the house. Follow this until you reach the crossroads, where you turn diagonally left. From here, follow the hollow path for about 450 meters to the crossroads. The first legend site awaits you at this crossroads.
The Mythenweg now leads you directly through a wooded area for around 400 meters. At the wooden bench, enter the forest and follow the markings on the trees diagonally to the right up to Herlingsburg Castle. The old Lügder connecting path to the castle can still be guessed through the hollows in the forest floor. After you have crossed the coniferous forest and left the section with the deciduous trees behind you, you will come across a small forest path again. Follow this to the left until you reach the north gate of Herlingsburg Castle.
Cross the north gate with its imposing boundary stone and turn left immediately, following the path along the rampart to the refuge. Here you leave the rampart to the right and cross the inside of the rampart to the north gate. The Mythenweg now leads straight ahead down the sloping forest path. After about 500 meters you reach the next crossroads, which you follow for 600 meters to the left. At the end of this path, an information board about the "Wölbäcker" awaits you. At this junction, follow the forest path to the left.
After around 650 meters, the path forks. Keep left and follow the path for another 250 meters to the next fork, where you also continue to the left. A little further on, you will pass a crossroads where you will be directed to the nearby "Bomhof". Follow the path straight ahead. At the next fork, where the story of the Känzler is told, turn right and follow the path to the tarred road. Follow this road to the left until you reach the hiking parking lot again after around 300 meters.
