In the middle of the Jakobsberg nature reserve, a special natural spectacle occurs in very early spring, at a time of year when the forests are still leafless and seemingly waiting for spring to break out. The short but magnificent flowering of the liverwort (Anemone hepatica or Hepatica nobilis) begins. More than 1 million of these heat-loving plants find such ideal living conditions in the nutrient-rich oak-hornbeam coppice that they illuminate the barren forest floor with their light blue to deep purple flower stars for around 3 weeks. The individual plant even flowers for just one week. But even outside this short flowering period, the liverwort trail is an attraction thanks to its varied route. At a wonderful vantage point below the Jakobsberg, a family lounger provides a relaxing break with a wonderful distant view of the Münsterland plain.
Tip: The Steinhagen Hiking Pass and the "Liverwort Trail" sticker are available free of charge from the Friedrichshöhe restaurant and the town hall.

Address for the navigation system: Kaistraße 48, 33803 Steinhagen
Take the 88, 188 or 68 bus to the "Vierschlingen" stop. Then walk up Kaistraße to the "Friedrichshöhe" restaurant.
Take the "Haller Willem" train to the "Steinhagen Bahnhof" stop. Then walk along Bahnhofstraße in the direction of the L 756. Cross the road at the traffic lights and continue left towards Halle (Westfalen) until you reach Kaistraße. Then turn right into Kaistraße and follow the road to the "Friedrichshöhe" restaurant.
