The Culture Route is a historical and cultural city tour of only 5.5 kilometers in length, which leads to the most important historical and cultural sites in the city center of the approximately 1200-year-old Hanseatic city. The main focus here is on the squares and churches in the old town as well as Herford's art museums.

The Kultur Route Herford starts and ends at the train station with its integrated bike station, where bikes can also be hired. From here, the route first leads past the Elsbachhaus and the MARTa museum before crossing the Aa river and reaching Wilhelmsplatz with the only Wittekind monument in Germany. The route continues for a few hundred meters on the old ramparts directly along the Werre. From there, the cultural route finally turns off in the direction of the old town, past the synagogue, which reopened in March 2010, to the Neuer Markt, where the Gothic hall church of St. Johannis can be visited. he circular tour also connects all the other squares in the old town, so that the Linnenbauer monument can be visited at Linnenbauerplatz or Herford Minster at Münsterplatz. The Old Market also invites you to linger with its gastronomic offerings. South of the old town, the Kultur Route meets the Aawiesenpark directly on the Aaufer and leads along the ramparts back to the starting point.

Despite the inner-city location, the circuit leads almost exclusively along asphalted side roads with very little traffic. The tour is very flat, making it suitable for families with children.
