On the signposted city center circular route, you will get to know the most beautiful and interesting corners of Vlotho's city center.

Over a length of 2.3 kilometers, the path runs past old half-timbered houses, sights and historic places. If you are a good walker, you can add the Apothekerweg to the loop through the town center, which is around 4 km in length. This leads up to the
castle ruins of Vlothos. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a unique view over Vlotho and Uffeln.

Sights worth seeing:

B) Rathsapotheke and Brink
What used to be a protection against floods is now a beautiful path to stroll along.
Look out for inscriptions in the half-timbered houses. At the end of the Brink, the lovingly original furnished Rathsapotheke is particularly worth a look through the shop window! Between the Brink and the pharmacy is a steep climb up to the castle - if you walk here, you will experience Vlotho from a completely new perspective.

H) Malz House
Elaborate carvings, inscriptions, rosettes - the wealth of the owner is reflected in the front of the historic half-timbered house dating back to 1684. It is a former merchant's house in the Weser Renaissance style.

J) Ev.-ref. St. Johanniskirche
Simple and hidden - the church of St. Johannis nestles between the surrounding houses.
The Protestant Reformed church from 1782 has an unusual floor plan: it is octagonal.

K) Art projects
Time to open your eyes! Artists have immortalized themselves everywhere in the city centre: on trees, in flower beds, on electricity boxes or on walls. If you don't look at your own shoes, you will discover oversized feet above Lange Str. 126. The colorful painting "Die Schwebende" is 3x5 m in size.

M) Mill wheel
Vlotho-Mühlenstadt. The restored wheel of the corn mill on the Forellenbach stream is a reminder of the past: over 20 water mills were used to generate electricity or as grinders.
Do you still know how mills work?

O) Oelbrink
Small houses nestled close to the mountain offer plenty to discover.
An inscription here and a walled-in millstone there. If you love hidden object games:
Where is the inscription "Auf Gott und das Glück hoff ich all Augenblick"?

R) Roseneck
Saved: Committed citizens organized the restoration of the dilapidated building complex.
This was to be demolished as part of the urban redevelopment. The battlements, the fountain and the backyard of the houses are well worth a visit.

S) St. Stephen's Lutheran Church
A church with a history: first the Catholic monastery "Segenstal" on this site, later home to the Protestant parish of St. Stephen. The "parish nave" and a flying angel figure can be found under the church ceiling - many a child has been baptized from the basin in his hands. The half-timbering of the old rectory and its inscriptions are unique.

W) Weserhafen
Replaced by the railroad: the old harbour is now a place for excursionists or amateur footballers and a venue for harbour festivals.

Y) Synagogue memorial
November 10, 1938: National Socialists destroy the Vlothos Synagogue, a simple building with high, round window arches. Shiny "Stolpersteine" in front of former Jewish houses and the synagogue memorial stone commemorate the crimes committed against the Jews of Vlotho.
Have you stumbled too?

Z) Schöning cigar factory
18th century: The processing of the tobacco plant from America provided work for almost a quarter of Vlotho's population at times.
Today: The "Schöning Factory" becomes the "Culture Factory". It houses a youth art school, youth center, local history museum, municipal library and cultural events.

There is definitely something for everyone in the calendar of events: www.kulturfabrik-vlotho.de

A) The Apothekerweg
The beautiful, romantic Apothekerweg leads through the castle forest and connects the town center with the castle ruins.
At the top, you can enjoy a unique view over Uffeln and Vlotho. Sitting on the old castle wall, being creeped out in the dungeon or taking a peek into the fountain - it's not just children who feel like knights or princesses here.
There are many ways to get to the castle: the discovery tour through the forest or the easy route by car via Burgstraße.
