On the paths of the Dutch walkers from Rahden to Hardenberg

The Hannekemaaiers are German Dutch walkers who went to work in Holland from around 1650. The Hannekemaaierspad foundation is now using the routes taken by the Dutch walkers of the time as the basis for a cultural-historical walking network.
Details of this can be found at stichtinghannekemaaierspad.nl.

The cycle tours listed below give you the opportunity to follow the Hollandgängerweg from Rahden to Hardenberg in various forms
The Hollandgänger route from Rahden to Hardenberg is 216 km long and leads partly along forest paths and also over sandy ground. It is not suitable for racing cyclists. Where cycling is not possible at all, the tours are continued on cycle paths in the vicinity.

This is an excellent way for cyclists to get to know the beautiful, sometimes not so well-known but charming area between Rahden and Hardenberg and learn about the history of the Hollandgangers.

As the tour cannot be cycled in full in one day, there are several alternatives:
  • Multi-day tour over 4 days followed by a return train journey to the starting point in Rahden.
  • Circular tours on and around sections of the Hollandgängerpfad
  • Biking sections of the Hollandgängerpfad and returning to the starting point by train.
The 14 individual circular tours are available at www.komoot.de/collection/1471229
