Nine themed boards along the circular hiking trail inform you about the tradition of glassmaking in the Bad Driburg area and tell stories about the former glassmakers from Bad Driburg.
The trail's signpost is a red seven-pointed star.
A second circular trail, the "Glashüttenweg Nord" (4.2 km | signpost: blue seven-pointed star), offers you the opportunity to extend the themed trail in a northerly direction. The starting and ending point of both trails is the hiking board at "Haus Kanne". The paths are paved throughout and easy to walk on.
Glassmaking tradition
Large deposits of wood and sand, which were available in the Eggeraum, were used to make glass. Charcoal and potash were also needed. Some field names still refer to this today, such as: Kohlstätte, Aschenhütte, Kohlberg or Pottaschehaus. The first glassworks was built at Hellehof in 1532, and work continued there until 1548. A further 10 glassworks were then built in the local area. The EGV department Siebenstern has tried to bring a number of historical sites related to glassmaking as well as former glassworks facilities closer to walkers and hikers by means of information boards.
Numerous exhibits from the over 200-year glassmaking tradition in the Bad Driburg area can be found in the Glasmuseum in Bad Driburg town center.
