Some schools are still easily recognizable as such, others have hidden behind a new façade. One of them has disappeared completely.
The timetable includes two tours of 18 kilometers each: the "Homeland Studies" across the flat countryside and the "Gym Lesson" with climbs and descents. Fortunately, punctuality is not important...A little history of school in Halle
The children of farmers used to have a particularly hard time. They had a long and often snow-covered journey to school in Halle in winter. Yes, and in summer they were mainly expected to help on the farm - if the work in the barn took too long in the morning, a thunderstorm or even the cane awaited the tardy country children in the classroom.
When the German Empire was founded in 1871, the "school for all" became a national goal. Under Chancellor Bismarck, a new school supervision law came into force in 1872. Teachers were now trained in seminaries and the schools were regularly inspected by inspectors.
Even the farming communities were now given their own small schools, in which several year groups were taught simultaneously in one or two classrooms. There was no longer any reason to skip lessons or arrive late. In the village schools, from Kölkebeck to Ascheloh, the children experienced joy and sorrow - until the school reform in the 1960s. There was no longer an elementary school from Year 1 to Year 8. All secondary schools were in Halle. As a result, the smallest village schools had too few children and had to be abandoned.
"History on Wheels" makes all these village schools visible again. They are connected by a scenic route. A flyer with an up-to-date map will be published. In addition, the ADFC has also added both tours to a popular app so that they can also be navigated using a smartphone.
From the opening day, the Haller ZeitRäumen will feature the stories of all the schools with historical photos, building plans and much more.
To mark the opening of "History on Wheels", the R.C. Teuto and the museum team invite you to cycle the easier "Local History" tour together on Saturday, April 13 at 2.00 pm. The meeting point is the outdoor display of the Haller ZeitRäume, directly at Ronchin-Platz.
