Dreaming under green roofs - the willow palace in Nethetal.

A living structure made of willow rods, almost 10 metres high and a good 30 metres long, awaits you, embedded in the extensive landscaped park of Rheder Castle, which can be explored along the "Water Path" and the "Forest Path"

Two circular trails starting from the Weidenpalais open up the landscape park of Rheder Castle and the neighbouring forest along the River Nethe. The "Water Trail" and "Forest Trail" take up the themes of the same name on various information boards along the routes.

The short forest trail is suitable for an enchanted walk with a beautiful view of Rheder Castle

The Weidenpalais itself is located on the edge of the landscape park, adjacent to the castle, in an idyllic setting on a spacious meadow not far from the River Nethe. A new bank invites visitors to rest, linger and play. The willow nature trail (currently being planned) provides information about the importance of the plants for the traditional cultural landscape in the Höxter district. The structure is open to the public at all times, but can also be booked for special events.

Vom Weidenpalais ausgehend überqueren wir die Nethebrücke, lassen die alte Mühle linkerhand liegen und nehmen den mittleren der drei Wege. Er steigt mäßig an und schlängelt sich zum Teil über alte bemooste Steinstufen hinauf in den Wald. Nach einer scharfen Rechtsknick, mit schönen Blicken hinunter in den Landschaftspark und auf Schloss Rheder wird der Pfad immer schmaler und verwachsener, da er nur wenig begangen wird. Keine Sorge, hier sind Sie noch richtig und schon bald öffnet sich der Pfad wieder und man durchschreitet den Buchenwald auf grünem Teppich. Folgen Sie nicht der befestigten Straße, sondern überqueren Sie diese und nehmen rechterhand vom Baustamm mit dem Sinnspruch wieder den Waldpfad, der Sie nach einer Kurve langsam hinunter zum befestigten Parkweg in Höhe des Rohrteichs führt. Von hier geht es wieder zurück zum Weidenpalais, oder Sie schließen hier an den "Wasserpfad" an, der Sie weiter durch den Park geleitet.

Equipment

Für Aufstieg und die Passage durch den Wald sind feste Schuhe ratsam.

Directions & Parking facilities

Rheder liegt direkt an der B 252 zwischen Peckelsheim und Brakel. Weidenpalais, Schloß, Schloßbrauerei und Landschaftspark befinden sich von Brakel kommend rechtsseitig und sind kaum zu verfehlen.

Ein ausgeschilderter Parkplatz befindet sich direkt am Bistro in der alten Scheune vor dem Weidenpalais

Der Waldpfad im Schlosspark Rheder ist mit dem Weidenpalais ein Bestandteil der "Erlesenen Natur". Insgesamt gibt es im Kulturland Kreis Höxter 18 solcher Erlebnisgebiete, durchweg in und an FFH-Gebieten gelegen. Sie alle sind Bausteine im Schutzgebietssystem "Natura 2000" und zählen damit zu unserem Europäischen Naturerbe!
