The canoe tour on the upper reaches of the Weser takes you through the fabulous low mountain range landscape of the Weser.

You start the tour in the basin of the tranquil Renaissance town of Rinteln and follow the wide bends of the Weser through a natural valley to Vlotho.
Discover the different faces of the Weser on your tour: it is a habitat for animals and plants, a leisure facility for water sports enthusiasts and anglers, a recreational area for holidaymakers and also an economic factor for water-oriented companies.
With an average current speed of six kilometers per hour, the Weser is the fastest North Sea tributary.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Why not organize your trip as a multi-day tour! After an overnight stay at the campsite, the trip continues on the second day to the famous Porta Westfalica!
If you are not on an organized tour, please observe the navigation rules that apply to many rivers. As a canoeist, you can make a contribution to ensuring the quality of recreational and leisure use in nature and the countryside. To do this, it is essential to adhere to a few rules:
  • Avoid paddling in reed beds, overgrown stretches of bank and shallow water areas; they are not only home to plants, some of which are endangered, but are also breeding and rearing grounds for many animal species.
  • Avoid noise and observe the animals from a greater distance.
  • Please only take short breaks in designated rest areas.
  • Always leave the river as you would like to find it and dispose of your waste in the designated areas.
  • Never paddle under the influence of alcohol. Drunken canoeists endanger their own safety, disturb the natural environment and have a lasting negative impact on the acceptance of canoeing!

Safety guidelines

Always wear a life jacket when paddling! Do not enter unknown waters without a map and follow the instructions on warning signs and information boards. Never paddle in high water and stop your trip in bad weather!

You can obtain important information on the safe execution of your canoe tour from Rio Negro.
