The Else and Werre lowlands extend to the south of the Löhn district of Mennighüffen.

The landscape widens considerably in the floodplain. The Blutwiese itself is a small nature reserve currently covering less than 20 hectares. During the Seven Years' War, the meadows along the river were the scene of fierce battles.

The construction of the A30 northern bypass around Bad Oeynhausen (completed in 2018) has significantly altered the Blutwiese and the floodplain of the Werre. Nevertheless, the landscape still offers many charming insights into the nature of an ancient floodplain.
