The Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge Nature Park should be accessible to as many people as possible.

Low-barrier (formerly barrier-free) paths have therefore been created for people with disabilities, senior citizens & children . The corresponding paths are well marked. Wheelchair-accessible information boards with explanations, also in Braille, are distributed wherever there is something special to experience along the way. The accompanying information flyer provides all the information you need at a glance.

Low-barrier adventure routes with level path surfaces and accessible information, e.g. for the visually impaired and for people with mental disabilities, can be found in the spa gardens of Bad Salzuflen and starting from Gehrden Castle near Brakel.

Directions

The path is wheelchair accessible with a flat surface and is marked with clearly visible plaques. The 1.2 km circular trail in the village leads through the historic village center with the half-timbered houses typical of this region. It starts at Gästehaus Schloss Gehrden, another facility specially designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The approximately 500-year-old "Twelve Apostles' Lime Tree" and the 12th-century Gehrden monastery church are located directly next to the castle.

A particularly interesting section of the path runs as a "dam" between the fish-rich "Öse" stream and the mill race running parallel to it.

In the outer area, a 1.3 km detour follows the Öse valley and offers a distant view of the Eggegebirge mountains. The end point is a rest area directly on the green banks of the natural stream. Due to the difference in altitude, an escort is recommended for wheelchair users.

Access path from Gehrden Castle towards the village center
This 220 m long path can only be used by wheelchair users with an escort. The route runs from the former monastery and Gehrden Castle in the area of the church over a distance of 80 m over cobblestones and has a slight incline.
