It was erected around 1230 in connection with the construction of the city wall and demolished in 1716 when the fortress was later extended. The medieval town gate was located in the area in front of the house at Bäckerstraße 68. Originally, the street was half as narrow at this point. It was not until the new department stores were built in the mid-1970s that the layout of the street was significantly changed here.
