Contrary to what the name might initially suggest, the Spieker likely did not serve as part of a farmstead. Its use as a craftsman’s house has also been ruled out. According to current research, the building served more as a bailiff’s or administrative office and was thus the seat of the local official at the time. With approximately 45 square meters of living space and an equal amount of storage space, it provided ample room for this purpose.
Today, the restored Spieker stands below the church in the center of Atteln. The historic building can also be used for wedding ceremonies and can be viewed while taking a stroll through the town.
