Monument
The Attelner Spieker, built in 1588, is a restored half-timbered house from the Weser Renaissance and is one of the best-known architectural monuments in the Paderborn region.

Its architecture alone and the fact that it is a secular building that is now more than 400 years old make it interesting for cultural historians. Rich fan rosettes on the parapet panels adorn this gem.

The Spieker certainly did not belong to a rural estate, even if its inscription suggests this possible interpretation. Nor can the Spieker be considered a craftsman's house.

At the time, the so-called Spieker was more likely to have the function of a bailiff's house or official residence, an expression for the seat of the town magistrate, who had 45 square meters of living space and 45 square meters of storage space at his disposal. In addition to restoring the Spieker as the most attractive building in the Altenautal, the district has also taken care of the prison opposite in recent years.

This is a tribute to something very special, even if many parts of its history are still very mysterious.
