The church was only built in modern times. In 1853, a small Protestant congregation formed again in Lügde - mostly from immigrants. The service was initially held every second Sunday afternoon on a house floor by the then Superitendant Wolff from Bad Pyrmont. In 1859, the young congregation received its own pastor in Pastor Greve from Gütersloh. Under his successor, Pastor Lindermann, a small church was built in 1864, called St. Johanniskirche, which was consecrated on July 27, 1864.
