This circular tour takes you on a route of approx. 21.7 km through the west of Laghens. This tour also starts at the market square with its Zieglerbrunnen fountain, the historic town hall and the market church. But there is also a lot more to discover, such as the "old castle" or Iggenhausen Castle. You can discover these highlights along the route:
- Brickmaker's Fountain
The brickmaker's fountain in the middle of the market square is a symbol of the town's brickmaking tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmakrt" was held here, where brickmakers and master brickmakers concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February. - Marktkirche St. Johann
The Marktkirche was built around 900 AD and consecrated by John the Baptist. It has one of the oldest church bells in Lippe. The baroque organ is one of the best in Lippe and dates back to 1707. - The historic town hall
The historic town hall was built between 1863 and 1865. In 1904 and 1905, it was rebuilt by the famous Lage town architect Gustav Meßmann as you can see it today. - Alte Burg
The grounds of the "Alte Burg" were once the residence of the first bailiff of Lage. There was also a tannery there. Today, the remains of the buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries have been made visible again so that visitors can take a look at Lage's history. The square invites you to linger, where the branches of the "Alte Werre" and "Werre" rivers meet at the edge of the site. - Ohrsen
The municipality of Ohrsen, which unites the formerly independent farming communities of Ohrsen and Ehlenbruch, is one of the western border municipalities of the district of Lippe. Its origins date back to the 9th century. The prehistoric road leading from the Stapelager gorge via Ohrsen to Schötmar may have played a role in the choice of location. Around 900, the settlement probably already consisted of two tribal farms. Ohrsen was first mentioned in writing around 1139 as Otherwardessen. - Iggenhausen Castle
The former castle is a medieval tower mound complex. The park is home to the oldest greenhouse in the region, which was built in 1860. The manor house, which is still privately inhabited today, was built between 1856 and 1865 under the owners August and Friedrich von Blomberg. A historic landscape park with very old trees is located next to the estate.
- City forest location
The approximately 50-hectare area of the city forest is of ecological interest with its wealth of tree species, the orchard, the numerous old trees and the deadwood trees deliberately left standing for display. - Friedenspark
The Friedenspark, located on Eichenallee, was the first cemetery to be established outside the city center in the 18th century. Some remaining old gravestones bear witness to this time. Today, a war memorial and a memorial stele made of red brick dominate the scene. The stele commemorates the fate of the Jewish residents of Lage who were deported and murdered during the National Socialist era.
