This hike takes you to places steeped in history, legendary rocks and one of the most impressive prehistoric castles in Westphalia.

Immerse yourself in a journey into the past. Hikers interested in history will find some interesting "mystical sites" on this circular trail.

It is believed that a Saxon sacrificial site was located at the "little Lord God". Charlemagne is said to have erected a Christian cross on this site when he converted the Saxons. Despite this, the Saxons continued to worship their "great god" Irmin nearby at the "Lazy Hunter" and contemptuously referred to the Christian god on the cross as the "little Lord God".
The path leads past the monument, away from the Eggeweg, to the Karlsschanze.

On the Eggekamm, above the Seven Springs, is the "Karlsschanze", a fortification dating back to the pagan times of the ancient Saxons. It was protected by ditches, stone and earth ramparts. The hilltop has steep slopes to the east, west and north. The main fortifications therefore faced the unprotected southern side. In the event of enemy attacks, people retreated here with their livestock and were well protected in the fortifications. With a total length of the ramparts of almost 3 km, the Karlsschanze is one of the largest rampart castles in Westphalia.

On the way back, you walk through the Hellebach Valley past the Seven Springs and slowly emerge from the past.
