At the foot of the Hermannshöhen, the foothills of the Senne nature region stretch out, with heathland, moors and rough grassland characterizing the landscape. In Oerlinghausen, the small, pretty old town and the open-air archaeological museum, which brings early human history to life in an interactive way, are very attractive. The Hermannsweg trail leads you up to the Tönsberg over sandy paths lined with pine forests. You follow the Oerlinghauser Meditation Trail, which is lined with numerous stones bearing virtuous inscriptions. The listed burial mounds are considered to be witnesses of the Bronze Age.
On the ridge path of the Teutoburg Forest, the Lönsstein and the Sachsenlager, the once mighty rampart castle, also await you. You can still feel the magic of this medieval place of pilgrimage today. A signposted path leads you from here to the remaining remains of the Hünenkapelle. The Stapelager Gorge and the old pass path through the Dören Gorge promise special hiking experiences. You will also be impressed by the 20 m deep gorge of the Rethlager springs. Experienced hikers can extend the tour southwards to 25 km. Via Augustdorf, you hike through the Furlbachtal and Ölbachtal valleys and return to Oerlinghausen through the Wistinghauser Senne.
