Animals from our gardens and settlements:
Shortly after the start, the larger-than-life depiction of four garden dwellers is impressive. Hedgehogs, moles, sparrows and snails live near us, but have usually hidden away again before we discover them. So that you can not only marvel at the sculptures, but also learn more, information boards provide information on the way of life and endangerment of the animals as well as the protection of their natural environment.
Archaeological adventure trail:
Past the Oesterholz hunting lodge complex and the generational garden there, a turn-off leads from Fürstenallee to a wooded dune area with barrows, which were primarily built during the older phase of the Bronze Age. Directly adjacent is the archaeological adventure trail, where two full-size replicas of burial mounds illustrate the burial customs of that era.
The Alleenhof - a Demeter farm:
A little further along Fürstenallee, between the Teutoburg Forest and the Senneland landscape, lies the Alleenhof farm, which produces according to Demeter guidelines. An idyllic rest area between the orchard and vegetable garden invites you to linger. The self-service hut provides refreshments around the clock and offers snacks for picnics.
Fotospot Libelle:
In the district of Kohlstädt, everything revolves around the renaturation of the Strothe. Here, the stream and its inhabitants can be explored along a section of water, as the water serves as a habitat for various insect species, among other things. This is also indicated by the large steel dragonfly, which is also a photo spot for young and old alike.
Long Valley Quarry:
Erosion processes have formed the so-called Long Valley near Schlangen. The bedrock is formed by thick layers of limestone, which were created around 100 to 88 million years ago from skeletal elements and shells of creatures from a prehistoric sea. Corresponding structures can still be discovered today as fossils. To illustrate this, there is a sculpture plate at the entrance to the quarry, which shows some fossils in their original size.
