A truly magical and lovingly signposted circular trail with lots of variety -
for hiking enthusiasts with sturdy shoes!

The Patensteig is not a walking trail - it is a discovery trail for hiking enthusiasts with sturdy footwear!
With the Gersiekschlucht gorge and the Rickbachschlucht gorge, it opens up a great diversity characterized by small waterfalls, countless boulders and rippling water in the cool forest.
The Patensteig is now one of the most popular hiking trails in the region and beyond. The idea of the Patensteig was and is to bring people closer to the beauty of our local nature and to show how important it is to preserve it for future generations.

Directions

The best place to start the tour is from the parking lot on the road "Im Siek" (K53), which branches off Extertal-Fütig from Extertalstraße (L758). Cross the Siekbach stream via a small footbridge and you are right in the middle of it. Right at the start, a picnic area designed as a stone circle invites you to rest after the tour. The route initially leads through the Gersiek Gorge via lovingly laid out narrow paths and steps. You cross streams on stepping stones and fences on steps - a great adventure, especially for children. A farm track takes you to the Meierberg Heights with its stunning views of the North Lippe cultural landscape and the Weser Uplands. The Patensteig thus offers new and exciting hiking adventures and new discoveries along the way at all times of the year.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Those who hike usually like to stop for a bite to eat, and there are various options around the Patensteig. Please enquire about opening times by telephone before stopping off, as these sometimes change according to the season. Groups are advised to book in advance. The Buschhof restaurant in the Meierberg vacation park is run by the Fricke couple. Drinks and food are very reasonably priced. The Hanning restaurant is a quaint village pub - the last one in the municipality. After consultation with landlady Christel, food is only available for groups on request and when it suits.

Safety guidelines

Important: Please stay on the paths, this applies in particular to the routes along the farms. Dog owners are urgently requested to keep their pets on a lead on the Patensteig. Firstly, to avoid unnecessarily disturbing the local wildlife and secondly, to avoid conflicts with the free-roaming dogs on the farms.
