On a route of approx. 27 km, you can explore the east of the town of Lage with its significant places on your bike. Start at the market square, where the town hall, the market church and the Zieglerbrunnen fountain await you. You can discover these highlights along the route:
- Brickmaker's Fountain
The brickmaker's fountain in the middle of the market square is a symbol of the town's brickmaking tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmakrt" was held here, where brickmakers and master brickmakers concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February. - Marktkirche St. Johann
The Marktkirche was built around 900 AD and consecrated by John the Baptist. It has one of the oldest church bells in Lippe. The baroque organ is one of the best in Lippe and dates back to 1707. - The historic town hall
The historic town hall was built between 1863 and 1865. In 1904 and 1905, it was rebuilt by the well-known master builder Gustav Meßmann as you can see it today. - Technikum
Built in 1925 in neoclassical style, the Technikum served as an engineering school until 1970, where bricklaying engineers were also trained. Since 1995, the Technikum has been a cultural center that houses the music school, the VHS Lippe-West and the Sibylle Dotti Art Foundation. - Sedanplatz
Sedanplatz is a park that serves as a "gateway" to the town of Lage. It is the last remaining green space in Lippe, which was originally laid out around 1900 as a prestigious station forecourt. Today's image is characterized by an old stock of trees. Alongside Lemgo and Schieder, the station opposite was one of the most important railroad stations for the transportation of bricks in Lippe. - Johannissteine
Three mighty granite blocks from the Ice Age form the Johannissteine. They are both a ground and natural monument and exude a mystical atmosphere, especially at the winter solstice. The alignment of the stones and several carvings indicate that the stones were used by our ancestors as a (pre-)protohistoric calendar. The biotope around the stones offers a wonderful view over the meadows and fields of Lage and invites you to relax. - Botanical fragrance garden by TAOASIS
Over 200,000 plants grow in the botanical fragrance garden on the TAOASIS company premises. In addition to the large lavender field, almost all the important aromatic medicinal plants and herbs can be seen there. Fascinating Mediterranean plants and fragrant exotic plants also await you. Here you can discover the wonders of nature with all your senses. - The church village of Heiden
The church village of Heiden was first mentioned in 1151. The Gothic hall church with its twisted church tower forms the center of the village. Surrounded by small and charming half-timbered houses, this place not only offers you a beautiful photo motif, but also a good opportunity for a break. - Hardisser Moor
The Hardisser Moor is a nature reserve, which was designated by the regional council in 1981. It provides a protected habitat for many different plant and animal species. The main purpose of protection is the preservation, development and restoration of the Oetternbach valley and the immediately adjacent area. - LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegelei Lage
The brickworks museum keeps an important piece of industrial history alive. The historic factory buildings of the former Beermann brickworks form the core of the museum. Here you can learn more about the work and everyday life of the Lippe brickmakers. The production days of the machine brickworks and the fire are the highlights of the museum's annual calendar.
- Stadtwald Lage
The approximately 50-hectare area of the town forest is of ecological interest with its rich variety of tree species, the orchard, the numerous old trees and the deadwood trees deliberately left standing for display.
- Friedenspark
The Friedenspark, located on Eichenallee, was the first cemetery to be established outside the city center in the 18th century. Some remaining old gravestones bear witness to this time. Today, a war memorial and a memorial stele made of red brick dominate the scene. The stele commemorates the fate of the Jewish residents of Lage who were deported and murdered during the National Socialist era.
