The 40.3 km cycle tour takes you through the northern part of the town of Lage. It starts in the town center on the market square. The history of the brickmakers is your companion on this tour. In particular, the brickmakers' fountain on the market square and the LWL Industrial Museum Brickworks Lage keep the brickmaking tradition alive to this day. You can discover these highlights along the route:
- Brickmaking fountain
The brickmaking fountain in the middle of the market square is a symbol of the town's brickmaking tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmakrt" was held here, where brickmakers and master brickmakers concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February. - Marktkirche St. Johann
The Marktkirche was built around 900 AD and consecrated by John the Baptist. It has one of the oldest church bells in Lippe. The baroque organ is one of the best in Lippe and dates back to 1707. - Technikum
Built in 1925 in neoclassical style, the Technikum served as an engineering school until 1970, where bricklaying engineers were also trained. Since 1995, the Technikum has been a cultural center that houses the music school, the VHS Lippe-West and the Sibylle Dotti Art Foundation. - Sedanplatz
Sedanplatz is a park that serves as a "gateway" to the town of Lage. It is the last remaining green space in Lippe, which was originally laid out around 1900 as a prestigious station forecourt. Today's image is characterized by an old stock of trees. Alongside Lemgo and Schieder, the station opposite was one of the most important railroad stations for the transportation of bricks in Lippe. - Hardisser Moor
The Hardisser Moor is a nature reserve, which was designated by the regional council in 1981. It provides a protected habitat for many different plant and animal species. The main purpose of protection is the preservation, development and restoration of the Oetternbach valley and the immediately adjacent area. - LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegelei Lage
The brickworks museum keeps an important piece of industrial history alive. The historic factory buildings of the former Beermann brickworks form the core of the museum. Here you can learn more about the work and everyday life of the Lippe brickmakers. The production days of the machine brickworks and the firing are the highlights of the museum's annual calendar.
- Biohof Brinkmann
The Biohof Brinkmann looks back on over 40 years of organic farming. The farm offers its guests an unpackaged store with many farm products made from original grains. There are also regular baking and wild herb seminars and overnight stays are even possible in a cozy construction trailer.
- Iggenhausen Castle
The former castle is a medieval tower mound complex. The park is home to the oldest greenhouse in the region, which was built in 1860. The manor house, which is still privately inhabited today, was built between 1856 and 1865 under the owners August and Friedrich von Blomberg. The estate is surrounded by a historic landscape park with very old trees. - Alte Burg
The grounds of the "Alte Burg" were once the residence of the first bailiff of the village of Lage. There was also a tannery there. Today, the remains of the buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries have been made visible again so that visitors can take a look at Lage's history. The square invites you to linger, where the "Alte Werre" arm joins the "Werre" at the edge of the site.
