Just under 6.0 km from Detmold railroad station up to the Hermannsdenkmal - through the former royal seat of Detmold and past the LWL Westphalian Open-Air Museum.

Here, the access route is a real experience in itself - you start at Detmold railroad station and hike through the former residential town with the princely castle of the Lippe family. The trail continues through the Friedrichstal parkland and finally up to the Hermann Monument, the landmark of the Lippe region and the Hermann Heights.

Detmold railroad station in the direction of Paulinenstraße, cross into Wiesenstraße > turn right into Doktorweg past the Landestheater > cross Rosental and into Schloßpark > pass the castle and leave the park on the right into Lange Straße > continue via Marktplatz Detmold to Hornsches Tor > cross the road at the traffic lights and follow the avenue to Obere Mühle > turn left over the bridge into Untere Schanze > then continue into Friedenstal > turn right at Friedrich-Ebert-Str. turn right > follow the road for a short distance then cross it and turn into Hermannsweg > follow the path uphill to Hermannsdenkmal.

As an alternative to this access route, you can use the tourist line 792 at weekends from April to October. This runs every hour and takes you from Detmold train station up to the Hermannsdenkmal.
