On this approx. 47 km long circular tour, you can experience Lage with all your senses. Whether it's the fresh air in the climatic health resort of Lage-Hörste, nature reserves, fragrant herbs and medicinal plants or tasty treats from the Brinkmann organic farm: nature and culture will be your constant companions along the way. From your bike, you can get to know the small town with its brick-making tradition from a different perspective. If you are planning a trip with the family, this tour is also recommended for families with children. You can discover these highlights along the route:
  1. Luftkurort Lage-Hörste
The state-approved climatic health resort of Lage-Hörste lies at the foot of the Teutoburg Forest. The good air has a particularly beneficial effect on respiratory diseases and circulatory problems. The beautiful and natural paths invite you to explore the rural landscape with its meadows and mixed forests. A place to feel good and relax!

  2. Fossiliengrund
A special feature within the municipality of Hörste is the Fossiliengrund in Hiddentrup, which has been designated a natural monument. This is a trochite limestone wall (trochite: stalk of dead crinoids), which can be described as an outstanding and interesting geological outcrop. The surrounding area with the groups of bushes and the striking oak tree forms a still intact ecosystem.

  3. Johannissteine
Three mighty granite blocks from the Ice Age form the Johannissteine. They are both a ground and natural monument and exude a mystical atmosphere, especially at the winter solstice. The alignment of the stones and several carvings indicate that the stones were used by our ancestors as a (pre-)protohistoric calendar. The biotope around the stones offers a wonderful view over the meadows and fields of Lage and invites you to relax.

  4. Botanical fragrance garden by TAOASIS
Over 200,000 plants grow in the botanical fragrance garden on the TAOASIS company premises. In addition to the large lavender field, almost all important aromatic medicinal plants and herbs can be found there. Fascinating Mediterranean plants and fragrant exotic plants also await you. Here you can discover the wonders of nature with all your senses.

  5. The church village of Heiden
The church village of Heiden was first mentioned in 1151. The Gothic hall church with its twisted church tower forms the center of the village. Surrounded by small and charming half-timbered houses, this place not only offers you a beautiful photo motif, but also a good opportunity for a break.

  6. Hardisser Moor
The Hardisser Moor is a nature reserve, which was designated by the regional council in 1981. It provides a protected habitat for many different plant and animal species. The main purpose of protection is the preservation, development and restoration of the Oetternbach valley and the immediately adjacent area.

  7. LWL-Industriemuseum Ziegelei Lage
The brickworks museum keeps an important piece of industrial history alive. The historic factory buildings of the former Beermann brickworks form the core of the museum. Here you can see for yourself how bricks used to be painstakingly made by hand. Every 1st Sunday of the month in summer, the light railroad makes its rounds across the museum grounds.

  8. Biohof Brinkmann
The Biohof Brinkmann looks back on over 40 years of organic farming. The farm offers its guests an unpackaged store with many farm products made from original grains. There are also regular baking and wild herb seminars and overnight stays are even possible in a cozy construction trailer.

  9. Iggenhausen Castle
The former castle is a medieval tower mound complex. The park is home to the oldest greenhouse in the region, which was built in 1860. The manor house, which is still privately inhabited today, was built between 1856 and 1865 under the owners August and Friedrich von Blomberg. The estate is surrounded by a historic landscape park with very old trees.
