- Start: Hermannsweg near Oerlinghausen
- Destination: Air sports center/glider airfield Oerlinghausen
From the Hermannsweg, a path of around 2.5 kilometers in length leads down to the glider airfield in Oerlinghausen.
With 50,000 take-offs and landings per year, this is one of the largest glider airfields in Germany.
A lively hustle and bustle can therefore be observed at the airfield on days with good thermals.
It's great to watch the take-offs and landings from the northern fence at the site. If you feel like flying with them, you can contact the glider pilots on site through the openings in the fence and ask if you can fly with them spontaneously. This is often possible for a fee of €30.
The approach by "onlookers" is very welcome, as it is difficult to book glider flights in advance. Many individual conditions must be met before you can take to the skies and glide majestically over the Teutoburg Forest. If you don't want to fly yourself, you can continue on to the tower and find a place to stop for refreshments at the "check-in", information on the various clubs that are active in Oerlinghausen and you can purchase vouchers for flights.
You can also spend the night at the gliding school if there is space available. Information here
