The Hövelhof Remembrance Tour sends you on a public search for traces of the First and Second World Wars. Many memorial sites are located on the NRW tourist cycle network,
making it possible to explore the events and background to these memorable times in peace and with the necessary thoughtfulness.
75 years ago, on May 8, 1945, the Second World War in Europe ended with the surrender of the German Wehrmacht. Many people are familiar with the well-known memorial sites of the First and Second World Wars, such as Verdun and Stalingrad - to name just two outstanding examples. But these terrible events have also left their mark on the Senne municipality of Hövelhof.
The Hövelhof Remembrance Tour aims to break down the events and consequences of both world wars, which are directly related, into local events and make them easier to understand. It is therefore deliberately limited to publicly accessible places in the Hövelhof municipal area.
The hope and aim is that as many people as possible can engage with this period up close and less abstractly and learn about the local background.
