Where the water hides.

Meter-wide funnels open up in the ground, watercourses disappear into the ground and reappear elsewhere... these and other unusual phenomena are typical of karst landscapes such as the Paderborn Plateau.

The geological hike of the Sälzer town of Salzkotten familiarizes you with these geological peculiarities and leads over 12 km through not too steep, wooded terrain.

After the hike, a refreshment stop in the historic center of Salzkotten provides refreshment. The reconstructed graduation house is a reminder of the once formative salt production.
A visit to the Wewelsburg district museum is also a good option near the hike.

Getting there

Coming from Paderborn, take the A33 in the direction of Brilon until you reach exit 33 in the direction of Etteln/Lichtenau/Wewelsburg. Then follow the L318 until you turn into Haarener Str. (L636). The hiking parking lot is located after 2 km on the right-hand side in Burscheidweg.
