Highlights on the barrier-free hiking trail
  • Feeling and experiencing nature for everyone
  • Flowing transitions of nature experiences in the landscape and forest experience area of Bad Salzuflen
  • 3 circular tours can be combined into a 3.5 km long hiking trail: Route Kurparksee of 750 m leads once around the Kurparksee, route Salzetal of 1,150 m impresses with the idyllic Salzetal, route Salzewiesen of 1.350 m accompanies hikers through the northern landscape garden with transition into the forest and field area
  • Wildcat sculpture to touch, the mascot of the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge Nature Park

The Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge Nature Park should be accessible to as many people as possible. For people with disabilities as well as for senior citizens and families with children. For this reason, the nature park has created barrier-free paths that make it possible for people with limited mobility and visual impairments in particular to experience nature.

The barrier-free circular path through the spa and landscape garden in Bad Salzuflen is wheelchair accessible with a level surface and marked with clearly visible plaques. The hiking trail is characterized by its proximity to the water - the Salze - and by the changing use of the landscape with the associated change in vegetation from the spa park to the landscape park to the Salze floodplain. Special adventure areas outside the landscape park are the alder swamp forest and the fallow deer enclosure as well as the wild cat sculpture at the park pond, which you can look at and touch.

This trail is recommended by the Verkehrsverbund OstWestfalen-Lippe as a hiking trail that is easy to reach by local transport.

Accessible nature experience in Bad Salzuflen

Bad Salzuflen, in the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge Nature Park, offers a special nature experience for people with visual and mobility impairments, families with children and senior citizens.

People with mobility or visual impairments can discover the spa park and landscaped garden alone or accompanied on a level path.
The barrier-free hiking trail provides access to nature, animals and experiences that people will remember fondly.

Along the hiking trail, information boards provide information on barrier-free refreshment stops, disabled-friendly toilets, parking spaces and particularly interesting nature spots along the way.

Experience barrier-free enjoyment of nature

Watch the fallow deer, the swans at the water fountain on the Kurparksee lake or marvel at the tall plane trees and their ancient trunks. In the evenings, the sun's rays gently cast their light over nature and everything shines in a golden glow. Enjoy a carefree stay in pristine nature.

Rare aquatic plants grow on the floodplains of the Salze river and thrive on flowering shrubs that are worth protecting and provide food for busy bees.

Flexible hiking options on the barrier-free hiking trail

The barrier-free hiking trail can be divided into three circular routes.
The loop around the Kurparksee lake is 750 m long. Directly adjacent to this is the route through the shady Salzetal valley along straight paths with a trail length of 1,150 meters. The third route includes the flowing transition at the landscape garden into the natural area of the salt meadows. This circular route covers 1,350 meters.

Three varied routes in the middle of unspoilt nature

The Kurparkseeroute invites you to go on an unaccompanied excursion along wide paths. Watch the water birds on the lake or listen to the birds in the awakening nature in the morning. Incidentally, the Kurparksee is one of the oldest parts of the landscape garden. In spring, you can watch a pair of swans nesting from afar.

In the Salzetal valley, nature lovers can get to know the interesting floodplain landscapes along the course of the river, feel a wildcat model and learn interesting facts on an information board with Braille. In addition, the colorful budgerigars in the bird aviaries provide animal entertainment.

The route in the salt meadows offers unobstructed views over the meadow landscapes, small ponds and runs parallel to Extersche Straße on the former narrow-gauge railway line. The fallow deer in the enclosure and the alder swamp forest are also worth seeing on this circular route. Ideally, a person in a wheelchair should accompany you on this route.

Route markings

A square, white sign with a green or red border shows a wheelchair user, the arrows underneath indicate the direction. A green border means that the path is flat and that wheelchair users can manage on their own. In some places, the red border indicates that an accompanying person is required. You will find these markings mainly on the Salzewiesen route.

Large information boards at the Salzebrücken bridges provide information about the length and course of the route and the condition of the path. They also provide information on barrier-free restaurants, parking spaces and toilets in the immediate vicinity. The corresponding paths are well marked. Wheelchair-accessible information boards with explanations, including in Braille, can be found wherever there is something special to experience along the way. More information can also be found in this flyer: Download Barrier-free hiking trails

Barrier-free adventure routes with level paths and accessible information, e.g. for the visually impaired and for people with intellectual disabilities, can be found in the spa gardens of Bad Salzuflen and starting from Schloss Gehrden near Brakel.
