The circular hiking trail "Auf aussichtsreichen Höhen" takes you high up on the Egge to the Prussian and Lippe Velmerstot. Before reaching the species-rich nature reserve, a long ascent through the mixed forests of the Egge eastern slope with its many small babbling brooks and springs awaits you.

From the village of Sandebeck in the valley basin, there are over 240 meters of altitude to conquer to climb the steep Eggekamm ridge. On wide forest paths through deep forests, the tour leads up to the natural paths of the Eggeweg. These lead over rooty paths with shallow ups and downs directly to the steep edge of the Egge eastern slope.

The deciduous forests give way to an unexpected open landscape at the Prussian Velmerstot, which offers wide views over the Egge, Teutoburg Forest and Weserbergland as far as the Sauerland. For an even better view, climb the Eggeturm tower at the 468-meter-high summit. On a clear day, you can spot some of the region's landmarks from there: the Köterberg and the Hermann monument in the north-west and the Desenberg in the south-east.

Before you hike back to Sandebeck, you should definitely make a detour to the Lippische Velmerstot with its rugged rocky landscape and exposed sandstone blocks.

Vanaf het station van Sandebeck volgt u de markering "Zugangsweg" (horizontale pijl) links van het spoor, parallel aan de sporen. Volg dan de straat "Am Bahndamm" aan de rechterkant en ga dan weer linksaf de Teutoburger-Wald-Straße in. Achter het spoor gaat u linksaf en gaat u naar beneden naar een pad langs een beekje en een kleine vijver, even later door een lage tunnel. Neem dan het graspad parallel aan de weg aan de rechterkant en ga verder langs de weg aan de rechterkant. Op de parkeerplaats voor wandelaars gaat u linksaf het geasfalteerde boerenpad op, dat ongeveer 50 m later overgaat in een grindpad. Volg dit pad, dat eerst heel langzaam gaat, daarna steeds steiler omhoog, tot ongeveer 3 km na de start. Hier vertakt het bewegwijzerde toegangspad zich naar links (steile bosweg) - maar wij blijven rechtdoor op het boerenpad, dat bij de Hakehütte uitkomt op de Eggeweg.

De Eggeweg is gemarkeerd met een wit liggend kruis (Andreaskreuz, X1), dat u volgt tot kort na de Eggeturm op de Pruisische Velmerstot. Hier moet u beslissen of u de markeringen een beetje verder volgt - naar Lippischer Velmerstot (ca. 25 min. daar en terug, absoluut de moeite waard!!) - of dat u de borden direct terug naar Sandebeck volgt. Kort voor de parkeerplaats voor wandelaars komt u weer op het bekende pad terecht.
