It awakens in spring and now the cotton grass is in bloom; not in May as is often assumed. In the densely populated cultural landscape, this wetland and refuge biotope is of great importance for endangered plants and animals. Furthermore, in times of increasing global warming, moors are becoming ever more important for climate protection. When they are intact, moors not only store a considerable amount of rainwater, but also the dangerous greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. It is therefore important to preserve this special type of landscape. The certified nature and landscape guide Rainer Eschedor focuses specifically on the important ecological functions of moors.
