Trip/excursion

The first Marian apparition north of the Alps is said to have taken place on the Stiftberg (originally Luttenberg) in the 11th century. Later, a convent for ladies of the lower nobility was founded on this site. Then more and more houses were added, eventually creating the fifth district of old Herford.
From the fountain on Neuer Markt, the route leads up Stiftberg via Jahnstraße. The tour continues over the top of the Luttenberg with its ancient trees to St. Mary's Church.
