It was built on the high western bank of the Weser in the district of Thoren (=Trum) as a replacement for a watermill that often stood idle due to a lack of water. In 1927, some of the original equipment was converted into a motorized mill that is still largely functional today by adding "modern" milling machines (aspirator, trieur, peeling machine, roller mill and classifying machines) using the old grinding gears.

Tip for excursions:
You can visit the Valentinsmühle either directly by car or by bike.
From the historic town of Minden, always cycle along the Weser - follow the signs for the mill route and/or the Weser cycle path. First you pass the waterway junction and the historic shaft lock. Directly behind the lock, you can see the trees of the northern cemetery above the cycle path. Not far behind, you can already see the bright silhouette of the Valentinsmühle. From the cycle path, a small path leads up the "dyke" to the mill.A seating area here invites you to linger with a wonderful view over the Weser valley. While enjoying a picnic, you can watch the passing ships.
