The house, which dates back to a remodelling in 1805, is one of the few surviving examples of **bourgeois classicism** in Minden. The steam sawmill and **cigar box factory Wilhelm Sültemeyer** was located in the associated outbuildings from the second half of the 19th century.

 It was a supplier for the **dominant cigar industry** in Minden in the 19th century. A former packing house (Bartlingshof 9) was initially converted into a factory and a large production building was added in 1899. In 1930, the factory moved to Artilleriestraße. Sültemeyer's property is an example of a manufacturing business that developed within the city walls during the fortress period (until 1873).
