Ein Lehrer erklärt in einem historischen Klassenzimmer die Schulgeschichte, umgeben von Schautafeln.

What were classes like during the Imperial Era? In a former classroom, visitors can explore a historical classroom featuring authentic furnishings and teaching materials from the Imperial Era and the period following World War I.

Benches for two and three students with inkwells, a teacher’s desk with a cane, a blackboard, a map stand, and a portrait of the emperor give a sense of what school life was like in days gone by. A cast-iron stove with a wooden bucket and a coal box rounds out the historic furnishings.

Slate boards, sponges, and chalk cloths are laid out at the students’ desks. Using a slate stylus, visitors can try their hand at writing the old-fashioned way and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a classroom from days gone by.

The collection also includes the complete school radio library from 1949 to 1987, as well as a historical collection of audiovisual media from 1890 to 1950. Since 1989, a second exhibition hall has complemented the museum. Titled “Education and Instruction in the Third Reich,” the exhibition documents the development of schools and education from 1933 to 1945 through furniture, pictures, documents, posters, maps, and teaching materials.
