The HW2 is an approximately 10-kilometre tour that combines forest paths, stream valleys and open landscapes and is suitable for an intensive half-day hike.

 From the parking lot at the bus turning area in Lichtenau-Herbram Wald, the route first leads along the Erleweg through the village and then along the Birkenweg into the forest. The route continues straight ahead over the railroad tracks to the Lichtenau/Altenbeken municipal boundary and on into the Ellerbachtal valley, following the Ellerbachtal valley to district road 38. Turn right along the road, cross the L828 and continue through the Bodental valley.
